Business Shows on Google Search but Not on Google Maps — 10 Reasons and Fixes
Your Business Profile appears when you search your name on Google but not in the Google Maps app, or only shows for your exact name and never for "near me" searches. Quick answer
If your business appears on Google Search but not in Google Maps, check these in order: the profile is verified and not under review or suspended; it isn't a hidden-address service-area profile (these don't show a pin); the map pin is correct; you're searching the right way (your exact name vs a category like "bakery near me"); and you're not being filtered because a similar business sits at the same address. If it only shows for your exact name, that's normal for new or weak profiles — improve category, services, photos, reviews and activity so Google shows you for wider searches.

"My shop shows on Google but not on Maps" is one of the most common complaints from new profiles. Usually it isn't a bug; it's how Google decides what to show where.
First, check how you're searching
- Branded search: your exact business name. Almost every verified profile shows for this.
- Category search: "dentist near me", "sweet shop Indore". You only appear if Google sees you as relevant, close and prominent enough (local pack explained).
If you appear for your name but not categories, read the "weak profile" section below.
The 10 common reasons
1. Not verified yet
Unverified profiles can be limited on Maps (unverified business, verification guide).
2. Under review after an edit
Changing name, address or category can put a profile under review for days (edits pending).
3. Suspended or disabled
A suspended profile disappears from Maps; sometimes it still appears briefly in Search (suspension fix, disabled vs suspended).
4. Service-area profile with hidden address
Service-area businesses don't show a pin on the map. They appear in lists and Search, but not as a dot where your home is (service-area guide).
5. Wrong pin
If the pin is in the wrong place, you may appear in the wrong area — or customers can't find you near them (fix map pin).
6. Filtered by a similar business
When two businesses in the same category share an address or are very close, Google may show only one (filtered).
7. Weak relevance
Wrong or broad primary category, few services, thin description (categories guide).
8. Low prominence
Few reviews, no photos, no website, no activity (ranking factors).
9. Distance
The Maps app uses your exact location. From 5 km away, nearer competitors may appear instead (proximity, phone vs laptop).
10. Closed status or hours
A profile marked closed, temporarily closed or outside hours with "open now" filters may not show (permanently closed fix).
Step-by-step fix
- Search your exact name in the Maps app while signed out (or private mode). If it doesn't appear, check verification, review status and suspension.
- If it appears for your name, test category searches from your shop and from a customer's area.
- Check the pin and address.
- Review your primary category and add services (products & services).
- Upload 10–20 real photos and post weekly (photos guide).
- Start a steady flow of reviews (how to get more reviews).
How long it takes
New profiles often take a few weeks to show for category searches (new profile not ranking, how long local SEO takes).
Example: a home-based caterer
A caterer said "I'm on Google but not on Maps". Her profile was a service-area business with the address hidden — so no pin appeared. She was showing in lists for "caterer near me" within her service areas. Nothing was broken; she added photos, menus and reviews and started getting more calls.
Example: a clinic under review
A clinic changed its name to include "Multispeciality" and disappeared from Maps. The edit had triggered a review. The doctor reverted the name to match the signboard, and the profile reappeared in two days.

How to test visibility properly
Your own phone is a poor test: Google knows you search for your business often and you're usually standing inside it. For a fair picture, ask two or three people who live in different parts of your area to open the Google Maps app, make sure location is on, and search a category phrase such as "sweet shop near me" or "physiotherapist in Baner". Ask them for screenshots. Then repeat the same searches a week later after making improvements. If you appear in nearby areas but not farther away, the profile is working — distance is simply limiting reach. If you don't appear even a few hundred metres away, look again at verification status, the pin and the primary category. A geogrid rank tracker can do the same test automatically across a map of points (geogrid tracking, check ranking from another location).
