Google Business Profile Suspended? Why It Happens and How to Fix It
The most common reasons Google suspends or disables business profiles in India, how to appeal correctly, and how to avoid suspension in the first place.

Quick answer
Most suspensions happen because the profile does not follow Google's guidelines — keywords added to the business name, a virtual office or home address shown publicly for a service-area business, multiple listings for one business, sudden big edits, fake reviews, or details that don't match real-world signage. Fix the cause first, gather proof (signboard photos, utility bill, GST/Udyam certificate, shop licence), then submit an appeal from the Business Profile appeals tool. Do not create a new profile.
Quick answer: Most suspensions happen because the profile does not follow Google's guidelines — keywords added to the business name, a virtual office or home address shown publicly for a service-area business, multiple listings for one business, sudden big edits, fake reviews, or details that don't match real-world signage. Fix the cause first, gather proof (signboard photos, utility bill, GST/Udyam certificate, shop licence), then submit an appeal from the Business Profile appeals tool. Do not create a new profile.
A suspension can make your listing disappear from Maps or lock you out of editing. It is stressful — but most legitimate businesses get reinstated when they fix the problem and appeal properly.
Suspended vs restricted vs disabled
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Suspended / disabled | The profile violates guidelines or Google could not confirm it is legitimate; it may be hidden or uneditable |
| Restricted (reviews) | Google found fake engagement; new reviews may be blocked, existing ones unpublished, and a warning shown (Google) |
| Unverified | Not yet verified — not a penalty |
The most common causes
- Keyword stuffing in the business name — "Sharma Sweets Best Mithai Shop Indore".
- Address problems — virtual offices, co-working addresses, PO boxes, or a home address shown for a business customers don't visit.
- Duplicate listings — more than one profile for the same business at the same address.
- Mismatch with reality — signboard, website and profile show different names or numbers.
- Suspicious edits — changing name, address and category together, or many edits in a day.
- Fake reviews or review campaigns.
- Restricted business types — some industries face extra scrutiny (e.g. locksmiths, some repair services).
- Account issues — a manager account linked to other policy-violating profiles.
How to fix and appeal
- Read Google's Business Profile guidelines and find what is wrong.
- Fix the profile — real name only, correct address or service area, remove duplicates.
- Collect evidence:
- Photos of permanent signage with the business name
- Utility bill or rent agreement for the address
- GST certificate, Udyam registration, shop & establishment licence
- Photos of the inside of the business
- Submit an appeal through Google's Business Profile appeals tool and upload your evidence.
- Wait — review can take days to a few weeks. Avoid editing the profile during review.
What not to do
- Don't create a new listing — it often makes things worse and creates duplicates.
- Don't pay "guaranteed reinstatement" sellers — nobody outside Google can guarantee it.
- Don't keep resubmitting the same appeal without new evidence.
How to stay safe
- Use your exact real-world name.
- Keep NAP identical everywhere.
- Make big edits one at a time.
- Earn reviews naturally — never buy them.
- Add a second trusted manager to the profile.
Example: a suspension caused by a name change
A salon added "Best Unisex Salon Bandra" to its business name on Google after an agency suggested it. Two weeks later, the profile was suspended. The owner reverted the name to the real signboard name, gathered proof (signboard photo, GST certificate, shop establishment licence, utility bill and interior photos) and filed a reinstatement request through Business Profile support. After the review, the profile was reinstated with its reviews intact.
Documents to prepare for reinstatement
- Clear photo of the permanent signboard with the street visible.
- Business registration: GST certificate, Shop and Establishment licence, Udyam registration, or trade licence.
- A utility bill or rent agreement showing the address.
- Photos of the interior and team at work.
- For service-area businesses: vehicle with branding, tools, invoices to customers.
Keep these in one folder on your phone so you can respond quickly if Google ever asks.
Frequently asked questions
How long does reinstatement take?
It varies from a few days to several weeks depending on the case and evidence.
Will I lose my reviews after reinstatement?
Usually reviews return when the profile is reinstated, but some may be removed if they were flagged. Contact Google support if many are missing.
Can I appeal more than once?
You can, but only appeal again with new or better evidence after fixing the cause.
Why was my profile suspended right after video verification?
Sometimes the video shows details that don't match the profile (name, address or category). Correct the mismatch and appeal with clear evidence.
