Your listing is verified but customers can't find it? Diagnose why a Google Business Profile isn't showing — from verification and suspensions to filtering, distance and weak relevance — with a fix for each cause.

Quick answer
First search your exact business name on Google Maps. If you can't find it even by name, the profile is likely unverified, suspended, under review, marked closed or a duplicate. If you appear for your name but not for searches like "bakery near me", the problem is ranking — category, distance, reviews, completeness and activity. Each cause below has a specific fix.

"I can't see my shop on Google!" has two very different meanings. Working out which one applies to you saves days of guessing.
Step 1: Run the two-search test
- Name search: open Google Maps (preferably in an incognito/private window) and type your exact business name and city.
- Category search: stand near your shop and search what customers would type — "sweet shop near me", "AC repair".
| Name search | Category search | Meaning |

| Not found | Not found | Visibility problem — causes 1–7 |
| Found | Not found / far down | Ranking problem — causes 8–12 |
| Found | Found | You're visible; work on moving higher |
Visibility problems (can't find it even by name)
1. Not verified yet
Unverified profiles don't show properly. Open business.google.com and check for a "Verify" prompt. Complete video, phone, SMS or email verification.
2. Verification or edits under review
After verification or a big edit (name, address, category), the profile can be "under review" for a few days. Wait, and avoid more edits during the review.
3. Suspended or restricted
If Google suspended your profile, you'll see a message in your dashboard. Find the cause — often keywords in the name, a virtual address or a policy violation — fix it and file a reinstatement request. See our suspension guide.
4. Marked as permanently or temporarily closed
Check your profile status. A competitor or confused customer may have suggested "closed". Reopen it from your dashboard.
5. Duplicate listings
Google may show the "other" listing instead of yours. Search for variations of your name and phone number and merge or remove duplicates.
6. Hidden address with no service areas
A service-area business with its address hidden but no service areas set may not appear for any area. Add your service areas.
7. You're searching from far away
Results depend heavily on location. A shop in Surat may not show for a search made in Mumbai unless the search names Surat. Test from near your business.
Ranking problems (found by name, not by category)
8. Wrong or too-broad primary category
The primary category is the biggest relevance signal. If you're a "Dentist" listed as "Medical clinic", you won't show for "dentist near me". Pick the most specific match.
9. Distance
Google strongly favours businesses close to the searcher. You might rank #1 near your shop and #10 two kilometres away. This is normal — more reviews and a stronger profile widen your circle.
10. Weak prominence: few or old reviews
If competitors have 200 recent reviews and you have 12 from 2022, they will usually rank above you. Start a steady review routine (aim for new reviews every month) and reply to all of them.
11. Incomplete or inactive profile
Missing hours, few photos, no services, no description and no posts for months all weaken you against active competitors. Complete everything and post weekly.
12. Filtering
When several businesses share an address or look very similar (for example, two listings for the same practice), Google may show only one and filter the others. Make sure each listing is a genuinely separate business with its own entrance, phone and signage.
A 30-minute fix-up checklist
- Profile verified and not suspended
- Not marked closed; no duplicates
- Most specific primary category + relevant secondary categories
- Pin on the entrance; correct address with pincode
- Hours, phone, website, services and attributes filled
- 10+ real photos, including the shop front
- Description of 600–750 characters
- A post in the last 7 days
- Reviews requested from recent customers and all replied to
When to contact Google support
If your profile is verified, not suspended, not closed and still doesn't appear even by name after a week, contact Business Profile support from your dashboard (Support / Help). Keep screenshots of your profile, the name search, and proof of your business (signboard photo, registration).
Frequently asked questions
My profile shows "Your profile is live" but I can't find it. Why?
Wait 24–72 hours after verification or big edits, then search your exact name in an incognito window from near your business.
Why do I show on my phone but not on my friend's?
Results are personalised and location-based. Your phone may also show your own business because you manage it.
Will posting every day make me show up?
Activity helps, but it can't fix a visibility problem like a suspension or wrong category. Fix the basics first.
