Google Business Profile Website (business.site) Shut Down — What to Do Now

Google turned off free business.site websites in 2024. If your Google profile still points to an old business.site link, here is how to fix it, the cheapest replacement options for Indian businesses, and what a replacement page must include.

Quick answer

Google switched off websites built with Google Business Profiles (business.site and similar addresses) in March 2024; visitors were redirected to the Business Profile only until around June 10, 2024, and now those links show "page not found". If your profile, visiting card, WhatsApp bio or ads still use a business.site link, replace it with a new website (even a simple one-page site) or remove the link. A broken website link wastes clicks and looks unprofessional.

Quick answer: Google switched off websites built with Google Business Profiles (business.site and similar addresses) in March 2024; visitors were redirected to the Business Profile only until around June 10, 2024, and now those links show "page not found". If your profile, visiting card, WhatsApp bio or ads still use a business.site link, replace it with a new website (even a simple one-page site) or remove the link. A broken website link wastes clicks and looks unprofessional.

Many Indian small businesses created a free website from their Google listing between 2017 and 2023. It was quick and free — and then it was gone. Thousands of profiles, visiting cards and Justdial pages still point to dead business.site addresses.

What exactly happened

  • Early 2024: Google announced it would turn off websites made with Business Profiles.
  • March 2024: those websites were turned off; visitors were automatically redirected to the business's Google profile.
  • Around June 10, 2024: the redirect ended. Old links now lead to an error page.

Google's advice was to point the Business Profile to a new website instead.

Check if you're affected

Search for "business.site" in:

  • Your Google Business Profile → Edit profile → Website.
  • Your Google Ads campaigns (ads to a dead page waste money).
  • Visiting cards, letterheads, shop boards and bills.
  • WhatsApp Business profile, Instagram bio and Facebook page.
  • Justdial, IndiaMART, Sulekha and other directories.

If you're not ready for a new site, delete the website field rather than leaving a broken link. A complete profile can rank without a website.

Option 2: A simple one-page website

For most local businesses, one well-made page is enough to start:

  • Website builders with free or low-cost plans (many offer Indian pricing and drag-and-drop editing).
  • A developer for a fixed price — ask for mobile-first design, fast loading, and that you own the domain.
  • Your own domain (e.g., sharmasweets.in) costs a few hundred rupees a year and looks far more trustworthy than a free subdomain.

What the replacement page must include

  1. Business name, full address, phone and WhatsApp — identical to your Google profile.
  2. A one-line summary: what you do and where ("Fresh sweets and namkeen in Vijay Nagar, Indore").
  3. Services or products with prices or price ranges.
  4. Opening hours and an embedded Google Map.
  5. Real photos and a few customer reviews (with permission).
  6. Click-to-call and WhatsApp buttons.
  7. A short FAQ (parking, payments, delivery).
  8. LocalBusiness schema code — generate it free with our schema generator.

Then add it to your profile with a tracking tag using our UTM link builder so you can see visits from Google.

Update everything at once

Make a list of every place the old link appears and update them in one go: profile, ads, social bios, directories, printed material at the next reprint. Consistent details help Google trust your business.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get my business.site website back?

No. Google discontinued the product. You'll need a new website if you want one.

Removing a dead link doesn't hurt — a broken link is worse. Adding a good website later can help.

Is a Facebook or Instagram page a good replacement for the website field?

It's better than a broken link, but a simple website you control is more useful for customers and search engines.
