Google Business Profile Photos Not Showing, Pending or Rejected? Causes and Fixes

Why photos on your Google Business Profile stay pending, disappear, get rejected, or Google shows a customer's photo as your cover — with size rules, content rules and step-by-step fixes.

Quick answer

Photos usually fail because they're too small or too large (aim for JPG/PNG, about 10 KB–5 MB, at least 250×250 px — 720×720 or larger is better), heavily edited, text-heavy, stock images, blurry, or off-topic. New photos can also stay "pending" while Google reviews them. Google chooses which photo appears first in results; you can set a preferred cover and logo, but Google may still show another image it thinks fits the search better. Upload sharp, real, recent photos regularly.

Why photos stay pending

Google reviews uploads automatically. Pending can last from minutes to a few days, longer during busy periods or if the profile is new, unverified or recently edited. Wait 48–72 hours before re-uploading — duplicate uploads don't speed things up.

Why photos get rejected or removed

  1. Text overlays, posters, flyers — Google prefers real photos; graphic posters often fail.
  2. Stock or downloaded images — not your business.
  3. Heavy filters, collages, stretched images.
  4. Blurry, dark or very small images.
  5. People who didn't consent, children, or private information (screens, documents).
  6. Off-topic content — selfies unrelated to the business, memes.
  7. Duplicate uploads of the same image.

Why Google shows a different photo first

Google picks images to match the search and the viewer — a customer's photo of your food might appear for "best biryani near me". You can set a cover photo and logo (Edit profile → Photos), but Google may still choose another. The fix: upload many good photos of what customers search for, so whatever Google picks looks great.

How to remove a bad customer photo

You can't delete customer photos directly. You can report a photo that breaks policy (Photos → open photo → flag/report). See removing photos from Google Maps.

A healthy photo routine

  • 10+ photos at launch: storefront from the road, signboard, interior, products, team.
  • 2–4 new photos a week: new stock, work in progress, happy moments.
  • Update the storefront photo after renovations.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my old photos disappear?

Google sometimes removes photos after re-review or policy updates, or because a user flagged them. Re-upload your best real photos.

Should I add text or offers on photos?

Keep text minimal. Use posts for offers — posts can include a photo and a button.

Do more photos help ranking?

Photos improve engagement (clicks, calls, directions), which supports performance. Quality and recency matter more than quantity.

Can Chamko upload photos for me?

Yes. When Google is connected, Chamko uploads your photos and branded post designs automatically.
