Restaurant Menu Not Showing on Google Maps, or Showing an Old or Wrong Menu? How to Fix It

Your restaurant, café or sweet shop menu isn't visible on Google Maps, shows old prices, shows a photo of another restaurant's menu, or pulls dishes you no longer serve. Learn where Google gets menu data, the difference between menu editor items, menu photos and menu links, why menus don't appear, and how to keep yours correct.

Quick answer

Google shows menus from three places: the menu you add in the profile's menu editor, menu photos (uploaded by you or customers), and a menu link to your website or an ordering page. If your menu isn't showing, your category may not support the menu editor, items may still be under review, or there are no menu photos or link. If it's old or wrong, it's usually customer photos of an older menu, a third-party menu link, or data Google picked up from delivery apps. Add items in the menu editor with current prices, upload a clear photo of today's menu, set your own menu link, and report wrong menu photos.

Customers check the menu and prices before choosing where to eat. A missing or outdated menu loses customers — or creates arguments at the counter when prices don't match.

Where Google's menu comes from

  1. Menu editor — items, descriptions and prices you add in your profile under Edit profile → Menu (available for food and drink categories).
  2. Menu photos — images tagged as menu, from you or customers.
  3. Menu link — a URL to your menu page or ordering site.
  4. Third-party data — Google may show menus from partners or detect dishes from reviews and photos ("Popular dishes").

The profile may show several at once (add a menu to Google Maps).

Why your menu isn't showing

Category doesn't support menus

The menu editor appears only for food and drink categories like Restaurant, Café, Bakery and Sweet shop. Check your primary category (categories guide).

Items under review

New or edited menu items can take time to appear.

Nothing to show

No menu photos, no link and no editor items means nothing appears.

Country or interface differences

The menu editor and its placement vary by device and region; on some views menus show under a "Menu" tab, on others under photos.

Why the menu is old or wrong

Customer photos of an old menu

Customers often photograph your menu. When prices change, those photos stay. Report outdated ones, and upload a fresh photo yourself so it's newer (customer photos, remove photos).

A photo of a different restaurant's menu

Customers sometimes tag photos to the wrong place. Report it as "not relevant to this place".

The menu link may point to an old site or a delivery app page with different prices. Edit it to your own menu page (restaurant website).

Delivery app prices

Delivery app prices are often higher than dine-in. If Google shows them, customers may think you're expensive, or argue at the counter. Use your own menu page as the link and explain in your description that delivery prices differ (Zomato/Swiggy vs Google Maps).

Popular dishes are pulled from reviews and photos. If old dishes remain, add current dishes with photos in the menu editor and encourage reviews mentioning your current specials. Report photos of dishes that aren't yours.

Setting up the menu editor properly

  1. Open your profile → Edit profile → Menu (or "Food menu").
  2. Create sections: Starters, Main course, Breads, Desserts, Beverages.
  3. Add each item with name, price, short description and dietary labels (veg/non-veg) where available.
  4. Add photos for your best-sellers.
  5. Save and check how it looks on the Maps app.

Use names customers search: "Paneer butter masala", "Masala dosa", "Chocolate truffle cake". Include regional names where natural (Hinglish keywords).

  • Photograph the whole menu flat, in daylight, without glare.
  • One page per photo, readable when zoomed.
  • Re-upload whenever prices change.
  • Add separate photos of thalis and combos with prices.

A menu page on your website

A web page with your menu as text (not just a PDF) helps Google understand your dishes and ranks for searches like "best biryani in [area]". Link it as your menu URL (website for local SEO).

Keeping prices consistent

When you raise prices:

  1. Update the menu editor.
  2. Upload a new menu photo.
  3. Update your website menu.
  4. Update delivery apps.
  5. Post an update if it's a big change.

Mismatched prices are a common reason for negative reviews ("Prices on Google were lower!").

Example: a South Indian restaurant

A restaurant kept getting complaints that Google prices were ₹20–40 lower. The cause was a two-year-old customer menu photo. It uploaded a new menu photo, added items to the menu editor and reported the old photo. Complaints stopped.

Example: a café without the menu tab

A café listed as "Coffee shop" had a menu tab, but its sister dessert parlour listed as "Store" had none. Changing the parlour's category to "Dessert shop" enabled the menu editor.
