Google Business Profile Performance: Which Numbers Matter and How to Improve Them
Understand Business Profile Performance metrics — views, searches, calls, directions, website clicks — what good looks like, and what to do when numbers drop.

Quick answer
In Business Profile Performance, focus on actions, not views: calls, direction requests, website clicks, bookings and messages. Compare month over month and against the same month last year (festivals change everything in India). If actions fall, check your hours, category, photos, reviews and whether a competitor improved.
Quick answer: In Business Profile Performance, focus on actions, not views: calls, direction requests, website clicks, bookings and messages. Compare month over month and against the same month last year (festivals change everything in India). If actions fall, check your hours, category, photos, reviews and whether a competitor improved.
Where to find Performance
Search your business name on Google while signed in (or open business.google.com) and click Performance. You can choose a date range up to several months.
The metrics explained
| Metric | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Profile interactions | Total actions taken on your profile |
| Views | How many people saw your profile on Search and Maps |
| Searches | The search terms that showed your profile |
| Calls | Taps on your Call button |
| Directions | Requests for directions — strong walk-in signal |
| Website clicks | Visits to your website |
| Messages / bookings | Where enabled |
What "good" looks like
There is no universal benchmark — a pharmacy and a CA firm behave very differently. Track your own trend:
- Calls + directions + website clicks should grow month over month as your profile improves.
- Compare Diwali month with last year's Diwali month, not with September.
When numbers drop
- Check for unwanted edits — Google or users can suggest changes to hours, category or address.
- Check hours — wrong hours make you "closed" in searches.
- Check competitors — did someone nearby open or improve?
- Check reviews — a few recent bad reviews reduce clicks.
- Check seasonality — exam season, monsoon and festivals shift demand.
Use the "Searches" list
The search terms list shows what customers typed. Add missing services, use those words naturally in posts, and check your categories match the top terms.
Track website visits from Google
Use a UTM-tagged website link on your profile (Chamko creates it) so your website analytics shows exactly how many visitors came from your Business Profile.
Example: reading a month of numbers
A furniture showroom saw this change from one month to the next:
- Searches: 4,200 → 4,600 (+10%)
- Calls: 70 → 72 (flat)
- Direction requests: 180 → 260 (+44%)
- Website clicks: 90 → 85 (flat)
What it means: more people found them and more decided to visit — the new photos of the showroom floor and a festival offer post were working. Calls were flat, so the next step was adding prices to products so people call with buying intent, and making sure phones were answered during lunch hours when many calls were missed.
Monthly 10-minute review
- Note the four numbers: searches, calls, directions, website clicks.
- Check the "Searches" list for new terms — add matching services or posts.
- Compare with last month and the same month last year.
- Write one action for next month.
Chamko's monthly PDF report does this for you automatically, with next steps included.
Frequently asked questions
Why are my views high but calls low?
Usually weak photos, low rating, few recent reviews, or missing information like hours and prices. Improve the profile's first impression.
How far back can I see data?
Google shows several months of history; download or note monthly numbers so you can compare years. Chamko's monthly report keeps a record for you.
Does Performance show my ranking?
No. It shows views and actions. Rankings vary by searcher location; use your Rank plan and real searches from different spots to understand visibility.
