Search Console Shows Impressions but No Clicks? How to Fix Low CTR for Local Business Pages
Why Google Search Console reports impressions with zero or few clicks for your pages — low average position, weak titles and descriptions, mismatched search intent, local packs and AI answers above you, snippet issues — with a step-by-step process to diagnose queries and improve click-through rate.

Quick answer
Impressions with no clicks usually mean your page appears but on page 2 or lower (average position above ~10), or it appears on page 1 with a title and snippet that don't match what the searcher wanted, or features above you (local pack, AI answers, videos, directories) take the clicks. Check the query's average position first: if it's beyond 10, improve the content and links to rank higher; if it's within the top 10, rewrite the title and meta description to match the exact query, make sure Google isn't pulling a bad snippet, and add the information the searcher expects.
Quick answer: Impressions with no clicks usually mean your page appears but on page 2 or lower (average position above ~10), or it appears on page 1 with a title and snippet that don't match what the searcher wanted, or features above you (local pack, AI answers, videos, directories) take the clicks. Search Console showing "google maps ranking check — 13 impressions, 0 clicks" is common for new sites. It's actually good news: Google already considers your page relevant. Now you need to turn visibility into visits.
Step 1: Look at position, not just impressions
In Search Console → Performance → Search results, enable Impressions, Clicks, CTR, Position, then open the Queries tab.
| Average position | What it means | Priority action |
|---|---|---|
| 1–3 | Top results | Improve title/snippet; check SERP features above |
| 4–10 | Page 1, lower | Title/snippet + content depth |
| 11–20 | Page 2 | Improve content, internal links, backlinks |
| 20+ | Deep pages | Content quality and relevance first |
Very few people click results beyond page 1, so zero clicks at position 15 is normal.
Step 2: Check what the searcher sees
Search the query yourself (incognito, phone):
- Is there a local pack, AI answer, videos or People also ask above?
- What do the top results' titles promise?
- Does your result's title and snippet answer the query?
Step 3: Match title and description to the query
If the query is "google business verification code by phone" and your title is "Verification Code Not Received? Fixes", rewrite it to include the searcher's words naturally:
"Google Business Verification Code by Phone, SMS or Email Not Received? 2026 Fixes"
Guidelines:
- Put the main query phrase near the start.
- Keep titles roughly 50–65 characters visible (longer may truncate).
- Make the description a clear promise (~150 characters), including a benefit or number.
- Avoid clickbait; the page must deliver.
See titles and meta descriptions for local pages.
Step 4: Fix bad snippets
Google sometimes ignores your meta description and pulls other text — even footer text or navigation. Fixes:
- Write a strong meta description matching the page.
- Put a clear answer paragraph near the top of the page.
- Mark footers and repeated blocks with
data-nosnippetso they aren't quoted. - Avoid boilerplate repeated across pages (duplicate content).
Step 5: Improve the page itself
- Answer the query in the first 2–3 sentences.
- Expand depth: steps, examples, tables, FAQs.
- Update dates and facts.
- Add internal links from related pages using descriptive anchor text (internal linking).
- Earn a few relevant backlinks (backlinks).
Step 6: Check intent mismatch
If the query is "google maps rank checker" and your page is an article, searchers may expect a tool. Consider adding an interactive element or clearly explaining free methods at the top. If the query is "google business profile agency" and your page is a hiring guide, add a section on what agencies do and pricing.
Step 7: Brand and favicon
Your favicon and site name appear in results. A generic globe icon or wrong site name can reduce trust. Ensure your homepage links a square favicon (a multiple of 48 px) and you have WebSite structured data with your site name (logo vs favicon).
Step 8: Measure after 2–4 weeks
Note the date of changes. Compare CTR and position for the same queries 2–4 weeks later in Search Console (use the date comparison feature).
A worked example from real data
| Query | Impressions | Clicks | Position | Action |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| google maps ranking check | 13 | 0 | ~9 | Retitled page to start with "Google Maps Ranking Check", expanded content |
| why is my google business profile suspended | 3 | 0 | ~12 | Added a diagnosis table and appeal steps |
| google my business profile photo size | 3 | 0 | ~8 | Added full size table and exact query phrase in title |
| how long does it take for a local business to rank on google | 2 | 0 | ~11 | Matched title to question wording |
This is exactly the process we used on Chamko's own guides.
Local business specifics
For local businesses, many clicks happen on your Business Profile, not your website. A query with impressions but no website clicks may still bring calls from the profile. Check Business Profile Performance too (insights).

Frequently asked questions
Is zero clicks with a few impressions a problem?
Not on its own — small numbers fluctuate. Focus on queries with growing impressions.
Will changing titles hurt rankings?
Relevant improvements usually help; avoid frequent random changes.
Why does Google rewrite my title?
If it thinks another title better matches the page or query; clear, accurate titles are rewritten less.
How long until CTR improves?
Often within a few weeks after Google recrawls the page.
Should I add "2026" to titles?
Only if the content is genuinely updated for that year.
