Quick answer

Attributes are tags like "accepts UPI", "wheelchair-accessible entrance", "women-led" or "outdoor seating". They help customers who filter results and help AI answer detailed questions. Hours decide whether you show as "Open now", which is one of the strongest local ranking and click factors. Fill every relevant attribute and keep regular and special hours accurate.

Quick answer: Attributes are tags like "accepts UPI", "wheelchair-accessible entrance", "women-led" or "outdoor seating". They help customers who filter results and help AI answer detailed questions. What are attributes?

Attributes are extra details shown on your profile. Available attributes depend on your category and country. Common ones in India:

Group Examples
Payments UPI, debit cards, credit cards, NFC
Accessibility Wheelchair-accessible entrance, seating, toilet
Service options Delivery, takeaway, dine-in, online appointments
Highlights Women-led, family-friendly
Amenities Wi-Fi, parking, air conditioning, restroom
Planning Appointments required, accepts reservations

Some attributes are set by you; others are based on customer answers.

How to add attributes

  1. Open your Business Profile → Edit profile → More (or Business information).
  2. Go through each attribute section and select what applies.
  3. Save. Only choose what is true.

Hours: the "Open now" advantage

Being open when someone searches is widely considered a top local factor, and many customers filter by Open now.

  • Set regular hours for every day.
  • Mark days you are closed.
  • Add special hours for festivals, national holidays and local events.
  • Add more hours (e.g. delivery hours, senior hours) if your category allows.

Attributes that matter most in India

  • Payments: UPI, debit/credit cards, cash only. Customers often check whether UPI works before visiting.
  • Accessibility: wheelchair-accessible entrance, parking, lift.
  • Service options: dine-in, takeaway, delivery, home service, online appointments.
  • Identity attributes: women-led, where applicable — these are shown on the profile and can attract customers who want to support such businesses.
  • Amenities: Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, restroom, seating, parking.

Only add attributes that are true. A false "parking available" leads directly to angry reviews.

Festival and holiday hours calendar

Set special hours at least a week before:

  • Diwali, Holi, Eid, Christmas and regional festivals (Pongal, Onam, Navratri, Durga Puja, Baisakhi, Ganesh Chaturthi)
  • National holidays — Republic Day, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti
  • Local market closing days
  • Extended hours during wedding season or festival shopping

When Google shows "Holiday hours may differ", customers hesitate. Confirming your hours removes that doubt.

Example

A pharmacy that stays open until midnight added "Open 24 hours" incorrectly years ago. Night visitors found it closed and left 1-star reviews. After correcting the hours and replying to those reviews with an apology and the correct timings, complaints stopped — and "pharmacy open now" searches at 10–11 pm started sending real customers.

Frequently asked questions

Should I set 24 hours to rank more?

No. Showing false hours leads to angry customers, bad reviews and possible suspension. Show your real hours.

Can customers change my hours?

They can suggest changes. Google may apply them. Check your profile regularly.

Yes. AI answers to questions like "dentist with wheelchair access near me" rely on attributes and other profile data.
