A shop, a dental clinic and a plumber do not need the same photo gallery. The right images depend on what a customer must understand before visiting, booking or calling. Start with the customer's uncertainty, then choose the visual evidence that answers it.

Match the image to the business model

Business model Customer uncertainty Useful visual evidence
Retail shop What kinds of products are sold? Representative categories, current displays, entrance
Restaurant What is the setting and food style? Current dishes, seating, exterior
Salon What does the space and equipment look like? Stations, reception, service environment
Clinic Where do I arrive and what is the environment like? Entrance, reception, empty rooms, relevant equipment
Repair shop Where do I leave the item and what work is done? Service counter, workshop where safe, equipment
Home-service provider What service is actually offered? Real team or tools at work, with permission and accurate context
Coaching centre What learning environment is available? Classrooms, facilities, learning materials without exposing students

These are planning examples, not a claim that every business must publish each type.

Build a customer-question map

Write the five questions customers ask before choosing the business. For each question, decide whether a photo is the best answer. For example, “Where is the entrance?” calls for an exterior view; “Does the shop sell this category?” may call for a representative product display; “What are the consultation fees?” requires accurate text, not an image alone.

Apply a usefulness test

Before keeping an image, ask:

  • Does it answer a specific customer question?
  • Is it current?
  • Does it show the real business rather than a generic stock scene?
  • Does it add something different from existing images?
  • Can it be published with appropriate permission?

Google recommends category-specific imagery that highlights features customers use when deciding to purchase products or services. Its guidance does not establish one universal photo count for every business model.

Review by decision, not by quota

A home-service business may have few useful premises photos because it operates at customer locations. A retailer may need representative categories. A clinic should prioritise privacy-safe environment images. Evaluate whether the gallery makes the business easier to understand, not whether it reaches an arbitrary number.
