Before-and-after images can explain a salon service, but they also reveal a person's appearance and may be sensitive to the client. Consent should be explicit, separate from the service purchase, and specific about where the image may appear.

Use a three-part permission process

1. Ask before capturing. Explain why the images are useful and that declining will not affect the service. Avoid asking while the client is changing, distressed or under pressure.

2. Ask separately about publication. A client may agree to a private record but not a public Business Profile photo. Offer clear choices such as internal record only, social media, or public business listing. Do not treat silence as consent.

3. Record the decision. Store the permission record securely and link it to the file using an internal ID, not the client's full name in a public filename.

This is a practical risk-reduction workflow, not legal advice. Businesses should review applicable Indian privacy and consumer obligations with a qualified adviser where needed.

Capture responsibly

  • Frame only the area needed to show the service.
  • Use similar lighting, camera distance and angle for both images.
  • Do not apply filters that exaggerate the result.
  • Remove mirrors or backgrounds that expose other customers.
  • Do not include phone screens, appointment books or payment details.
  • Avoid implying a guaranteed result from one person's outcome.

Store and publish with controls

Use a restricted folder for original files. Keep a record of the final approved crop and where it was published. If consent is withdrawn, identify the files and destinations that the business controls and remove them where appropriate; explain that copies already saved or reposted by others may not be fully recoverable.

Before adding an image to a Google Business Profile, review Google's photo and content policies. Images must comply with its prohibited and restricted content policies and applicable laws. If the client is a minor, do not use a casual verbal process; obtain appropriate guardian permission and follow professional safeguarding standards.
