Comparing two local landing pages by total clicks can be misleading. A page for a popular service may naturally receive more impressions than a page for a specialised service. A useful comparison considers the purpose of each page, the query mix, and the outcome that matters.

Define the comparison question

Are you asking which page:

  • is seen more often?
  • earns more clicks from its available impressions?
  • attracts queries that match the service?
  • generates more measured enquiries?
  • improved most relative to its own baseline?

These are different questions and may produce different answers.

Build the comparison

  1. Select both page URLs in Search Console.
  2. Use the same complete date range and country/device filters.
  3. Compare impressions, clicks, CTR, and average position.
  4. Review the queries for each page. Check whether the pages target similar intent before treating their numbers as directly comparable.
  5. In analytics, compare recorded sessions and meaningful events for the corresponding landing pages.
  6. Use the CRM or booking system for enquiries and outcomes, with consistent definitions.
  7. Record page changes and any tracking or URL changes.

Example

A hypothetical Ahmedabad pest-control page has 4,000 impressions and 100 clicks; a termite-treatment page has 900 impressions and 45 clicks. Their CTRs are 2.5% and 5%, respectively. It would be inaccurate to say the termite page is automatically “better”: the pages may serve different queries, and the smaller page may have more specialised demand. Evaluate the business goal and enquiry quality as well.

Avoid page-versus-page traps

  • A URL may have been redesigned or redirected during the comparison.
  • Similar pages may compete for overlapping queries, but a single report cannot prove that one page is cannibalising another.
  • Search Console reports search-result interactions, not all sessions.
  • Analytics may group URL variants differently.
  • A page with few impressions can have a volatile CTR from a small number of clicks.
  • Average position is an aggregate, not a stable rank seen by every user.

Decision framework

If a page has relevant impressions but weak click share, review its result message and query mix. If it gets clicks but few measured enquiries, test page clarity, contact options, form operation, and offer fit. If it has very low impressions, inspect whether its target query demand, indexability, and role in the site's content structure justify further work.
