Quick answer: A post goes live with the wrong link, expired offer, incorrect price, or unusable call to action. This guide provides a repeatable process, explicit ownership, and evidence for deciding whether the work is complete.
Treat every publication as a small release
The final check should not depend on whether the creator feels confident. Use a repeatable preflight check that verifies the actual customer experience, particularly on a mobile device.
The five-part preflight
1. Facts: confirm offer terms, price, stock, date, location, service area, eligibility, and opening hours with the relevant owner. 2. Link: open the destination, confirm it loads without a login that customers cannot access, and verify that it matches the call to action. 3. Time: confirm start and end dates, local time zone where scheduling is involved, and whether the offer is still valid. 4. Presentation: inspect spelling, image crop, readability, language, and mobile layout. 5. Policy and privacy: check platform rules and remove unsupported claims or private customer details.
Test the entire path
A “Book now” button is not successful merely because it is clickable. Test whether the destination allows a customer to complete the intended action. If the destination is a WhatsApp chat, verify that the correct business account opens and that someone is assigned to respond. Do not publish an unmonitored contact route.
Severity categories
- Critical: wrong price or offer conditions, broken booking/enquiry path, incorrect hours, privacy exposure. Pause or correct immediately.
- Major: wrong location, unreadable creative, expired event date, mismatched destination. Correct before promotion continues.
- Minor: punctuation or cosmetic inconsistency that does not change meaning. Fix according to impact and workload.
Release record
| Check | Result | Evidence | Reviewer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Offer dates and price | Pass/Fail | Approved offer sheet | Pricing owner |
| Destination link | Pass/Fail | Test completed on phone | Publisher |
| Live content | Pass/Fail | Live URL or screenshot | Second checker |
After publication
Check the live version after publishing or scheduling. If an error is found, fix the source item and inspect every channel where the same offer was reused. Record the cause—unclear brief, stale source, copy-paste error, or missing approval—so the process can be improved.
Avoid over-checking low-risk content
Not every evergreen post needs multiple layers of approval. Use a lightweight review for routine content and stronger checks for prices, claims, sensitive topics, and time-limited offers.
Checklist
- Facts match an approved source
- Link tested on a phone
- Dates and offer conditions checked
- Contact route is monitored
- Policy and privacy review completed
- Live publication verified
Next step
Use this list for the next campaign and record every defect caught before publication. Those defects show where the checklist is preventing customer confusion.
