Quick answer

Create a Marketing Account Recovery Plan Before Access Is Lost. A practical operating method for Indian small businesses, with a distinct decision tool and…

Access loss is an operational outage

A business can lose access after a staff departure, a phone replacement, a compromised mailbox, or a platform review. If one person owns every recovery method, routine marketing work can stop even when the public listing or account still exists. Recovery planning is different from sharing passwords: it identifies authorised owners, safe fallback routes, and the evidence required to regain control.

Inventory accounts by business impact

List the tools that can publish public information, spend money, store customer records, or control domains. For each one, identify the legal business owner, current administrators, recovery email or phone, billing contact, and documented support route. Do not place passwords or one-time codes in the registry. Store credentials only in an approved password manager with access controls and recovery procedures.

Remove single points of failure

Where a platform supports multiple authorised users, assign individual accounts according to actual roles rather than sharing one login. Keep at least one appropriate backup administrator where policy and security practices permit it. Review whether recovery contacts still belong to the business. A backup that points to a former employee is not a backup; it is a future delay.

Prepare an evidence packet

Some account disputes require proof of business identity, ownership, domain control, billing, or authorised representation. Record what may be needed and where legitimate evidence is stored, without exposing it broadly. Follow the platform’s official recovery instructions when an incident occurs; unofficial agents promising guaranteed restoration may be scams. Recovery options differ by product, so do not assume one platform’s process applies to another.

Scenario: the sole admin leaves

A small agency discovers that the employee who managed its client profile has resigned and their work mailbox has been disabled. The agency should use the platform’s official access process, contact the client’s authorised owner, preserve relevant employment and business records, and review all connected accounts. It should not attempt to impersonate the former employee or bypass security controls.

Exercise the plan

Twice a year, confirm that recovery contacts work and that a second authorised person knows the approved procedure. Test documentation, not by deliberately locking out the live account but by walking through the steps and checking access to the evidence. After a real incident, update the plan with the actual delay and missing information. A recovery plan cannot guarantee a platform’s decision, but it can prevent avoidable internal confusion.
